God's Power vs. Satan's Power

Growing up in church, I have always been taught that god (all aspects of God, including the trinity) is omnipotent. In her book "Wounding and Healing of Desire," Wendy Farley addresses the aspect of power and what it means for both God and Satan. According to Farley, the power of Christ is very different from the type of power that Satan has. Satan has a more traditional type of power; the type of power of a victor or king. Christ's power is more submissive and comes from resisting temptation while on earth. This is an interesting concept of how to describe heavenly power; but if we take away God's omnipotence do we change God's capabilities?

Earlier in the semester our class discussed the "three legged stool." The three legs hold up the "seat" which is the problem of evil. If God is not omnipotent, he does not have full control of the earth and we can explain the existence of evil in the human world. However, this is a hard concept for me to accept. Many churches teach that God is omnipotent and would be unwilling to accept any other theory. It is disturbing to me to think that Satan has a power that Dos does not have. This is not to say that this power is better or stronger, just different.

Through our class discussion, I realized that there is no denying that Satan or evil has power in this world; horrible occurrences prove this daily. Also, I don't think it is unreasonable to think that God's power and Satan's power differ. In fact, that makes perfect sense! Why should two entirely different entities with completely different purposes have the exact same type of power?
